I never see anyone mention it, but there's another incident with this guy:

Here's a news report about it:

If the system worked correctly he would have been fired for that incident, before he ever had the chance to gun that poor guy down. I appreciate the police and how hard their job is, but the departments/unions/cities shouldn't be protecting shitty cops.

Edit: Thanks for the gold. I'm happy it brought more eyes to the video. I hope it gets posted whenever this shooting comes up.

Brailsford isn't the only POS. Brailsford murdered an unarmed man who was in a submissive position and sobbing and pleading "don't kill me!" But Brailsford's lieutenant sergeant was the one shouting throughout the video (and he later and suddenly retired then moved to the Philippines). And also the judge would not allow the video to be broadcast by news organizations admitted as evidence because it might "bias" the jury. And the police department re-hired him for a day so he could get his pension for life. That was a "decision" that was also made in conjunction with the board as the video shows. In short, corruption seems rampant throughout the city. The city is knee deep in POSes.

Edit: Not a lieutenant, but sergeant - Sgt. Charles Langley. Thanks /u/dben89x who also gave a link to the police report.

Edit 2: Correction about the judge, thanks to /u/LegitosaurusRex: "Judge George Foster barred news organizations from broadcasting the shooting video, agreeing with Brailsford’s argument that it could hurt his fair-trial rights. The Associated Press and other news organizations objected to the request, arguing the public has a First Amendment right to see the video." (Source) But previously: "Judge Sam Myers, who was previously assigned to the case, issued an order in 2016 to release the footage only in part. Myers found that portions of the video should remain sealed until sentencing or acquittal, and also declined to turn it over to Shaver’s widow." (Source)

Absolutely disgusting. As the video mentions, the law explicitly states that the disability pension is for employees terminated as a result of the disability. Brailsford was terminated for violating Mesa PD policies, not for any disability. He claims two years after the murder that he got PTSD from it and the resulting trial, and now he receives $2,500 a month. He is stealing taxpayer money for a medical condition (that he probably doesn't even have) that he developed from MURDERING AN INNOCENT UNARMED MAN; he is literally PROFITING from MURDER, and there's nothing that the American people or the citizens of Mesa can do about it. I am completely astonished and outraged. I don't want to be another hyperbolist that makes statements like "the system is broken", but holy fuck, there have been so many failures of our democracy when it comes to this case.

    1. As /u/rudedogg mentioned in his comment with this video, he should have been fired long before he was able to murder Daniel Shaver. And yet Internal Affairs cleared him and he kept his job.

    2. He was acquitted of murder (what the FUCK was going on in the heads of the jury members???)

    3. He was temporarily rehired by Mesa PD allowing him to qualify for a disability pension, since he waited over the one year period granted by the law. No officer terminated for violations of police department policy, let alone one that murdered an unarmed man, should be rehired by the police department. Furthermore, he was hired for the explicit purpose of making him eligible for a disability pension, a disability that he only developed because HE MURDERED AN INNOCENT MAN.

    4. Him receiving a disability pension was put up to a vote with the pension board, even when only people terminated as a result of the disability are eligible for such pensions (as mentioned earlier, Brailsford was terminated for violation of police department policies, not a disability that he developed after the fact).

    5. The pension board voted in favor of granting Brailsford the pension. This is absolutely mind boggling, he doesn't even meet the requirements of the fucking pension. What is the purpose of the board if not to enforce requirements and maintain the law regarding these pensions.

    6. The public is only being informed of his temporary rehiring and this pension now, months after it has been decided.

Fuck the Mesa PD and everybody involved in allowing this debacle to happen. There are thousands of homeless veterans with PTSD, true Americans who sacrificed their well-being for the safety of our nation, who are in return being thoroughly neglected by us. They are left starving on the streets, struggling to survive. But for people like Brailsford, claiming PTSD for a gross abuse of power, the government magically starts bending over backwards, granting special rehiring and handing out pensions, despite when the eligibility requirements aren't met. I am revolted.

I've seen this full video and nothing could be more disgusting to me than to know this dude walked free.

I fought in Afghan, the world is a dangerous place, we made mistakes. If you've ever seen the full video of this shooting you know full well this is absolutely inexcusable, even if you've seen a squad secret or two.

This man didn't fear for his life. If he did, he didn't belong in the position he was in. Period. A simpleton could see that, but as a combat veteran I can't see this dudes side, even though in many other cases I can. There is simply no excuse for this shooting, nor is there any excuse for the lack of responsibility executed by the police department afterward.

The video of him killing that man is, quite literally, the most fucked up thing I've ever watched. I've been watching fucked up videos on the internet for a LONG time, and when I saw this one I felt absolutely ill. I have never been so strongly affected by a video in my life.

I went to middle and high school as well as church functions with Mitch. He was a bully all throughout growing up. Yes people make mistakes, but In this case, knowing him, he deserves more negative consequences than he is getting. I am disgusted he got away with taking a mans life and NOW rehired?!

Damn, I never directly comment about these stories but that is as low as you can go. If anyone's wondering, this is the guy who had his victim crawling on the ground, begging and crying and then shot him to death just because whatever. So, so low. America is really going through some dark times right now.

Let this not distract you from the fact this murderer had "You're fucked" etched onto his gun, and the gun was considered inadmissible as proof on the court.

    Here it is.

Fuck this guy and fuck the other coward in Philipphines, clearly running away from this incident.

This is why you see sentiments against law enforcement. Not because ordinary citizens hate them for enforcing laws and maintaining social peace, but because the law enforcement community has a serious integrity/corruption issue that they refuse to address.

This piece of shit was responsible for one of the worst police abuses I've ever seen. He gives the man repeated, confusing, conflicting orders. The man is literally crawling and crying and begging for his life, while this scum just harasses him further and ultimately kills him. Sometimes I feel that people are too quick to condemn police for difficult choices in unclear circumstances, but this is easily the most cut and dry case I've seen. This sociopath was looking for any excuse to kill someone, and the fact that he has been rewarded for his murder is reprehensible.

At first, I wanted to blame the officials who approved this. However, after further research, I’m almost certain the rank and file forced this upon the higher ups.

Reading this article literally made me sick to my stomach. Anyone who tries to implement even the most basic reforms is immediately labeled a traitor. I wish Mesa and it’s citizens the best of luck.

I personally knew and grew up with Daniel. He was a really kind kid, super friendly, and had a lot of friends. He was laid back and loved to crack jokes. It’s a damn shame that he went out like that, the piece of shit legit just murdered him. Daniel was a good dude and didn’t deserve to have his life ended like that by some trigger-happy idiot.

Seriously, though. Something's gotta change with the police. This shit is getting comical

Edit: Just watched the original video. Fuck this guy so much. Let's pretend for a second I wanted to exercise my right to remain silent in this scenario. This useless fuck would have shot me anyway. His instructions were very confusing and at no point did he ever try to deescalate the situation, which would have been quite easy to do. In fact, he looked for any opportunity to escalate it. Seriously, fuck cops. I know many of them wouldn't do this, but they all are just as guilty because they try to protect murderers like this and make sure they get a check in the mail every month afterward. I am fuming right now

  • book81able

Every person who works in the Mesa, Arizona PD is complicit in murder unless they actively are protesting this or are writing their resignation now.

Every person in the Mesa city government with power over the police force is complicit for not working towards a reset of the system that killed Daniel Shaver.

Every police officer who defends police’s actions at all times is on the side of a murder. Maybe this is their exception, but again, they are complicit in a system that kills innocent fathers.

If you live in Arizona, especially Mesa, reach out to your government and police department using the other links here, attend meetings, get involved, and vote. You are a stake holder in this system. As it stands your friend, parent, child, spouse, could be murdered by those sworn to protect you without even a shred of justice.

I’m complicit in a lot of shit in this country. But the memory of that video reminds me that if we don’t fix things there will be more needless human suffering as worse as a father crying on the floor begging for life. Most of it won’t be filmed.

Please, I’m honestly just scared for when this will happen to someone I know and love.
